Proform Cardio CrossTrainer 650 Elliptical Trainer Review

Our Proform Cardio CrossTrainer 650 elliptical trainer review looks at a no frills machine from ProForm – is it any good?

Well, ProForm tends to specialise in these cheap, low end machines that appeal to buyers with a strict budget.

However, the CrossTrainer 650 seems to have even less to offer than the cheaper ProForm 320 or ProForm 330.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – there’s just no way that you can build and sell a good elliptical at this price and the CrossTrainer 650 is no exception.

There’s not much in the way of electronic features, the saving grace of other budget ProForms, so I’m not sure what makes this model a better buy than others in the range..?

Proform Cardio CrossTrainer 650 Elliptical Trainer Review – Features

Proform Cardio Cross Trainer 650 Elliptical Trainer review

It retails for $399 and is a very basic machine. Now I normally start a budget ProForm review with some positive statements about the wide array of features you get included for the price…with the CrossTrainer 650 I can’t do that.

Our ProForm Cardio CrossTrainer 650 elliptical trainer review found a machine packed with…well, very few features, albeit at an affordable price.

You get silent magnetic resistance (SMR), which is a poor relation to the excellent eddy current brake (ECB) system found on more expensive ellipticals.

There are four workout programs and an an EKG hand grip heart monitor together with a large LCD display…hardly enough to set the heart racing!

I figured that with the CrossTrainer 650 ProForm had decided to invest in the build quality rather than the extras, but that’s not really the case.

The 650 suffers the same understandable drawbacks of all ellipticals in this price range.

For under $400 you get a lot of plastic and thin steel tubing that amount to a rather lightweight piece of kit that lacks stability.

The limited stride length results in a somewhat truncated range of motion that is far from smooth.

It is compact, though and with its lightweight construction lends itself to easy storage, which is a boon for home exercise equipment.

I could go on with the criticism but that really would be unfair. This is a cheap elliptical and you can’t really expect much more for the price.

If you’re in the market for a budget elliptical…well, this is a budget elliptical!

Proform Cardio CrossTrainer 650 Elliptical Trainer Review – The Bottom Line…

Our ProForm Cardio CrossTrainer 650 elliptical trainer review would conclude that this is a very average machine, with little if anything to set it apart from the crowd – except for the long name, that is.
