Flavor Point Diet Review
Check out our Flavor Point Diet review for a novel approach to weight loss...can you really lose weight by limiting
the flavors you eat?David Katz, a medical doctor and associate professor at Yale University's School of Public
Health thinks so. In this his second book, Katz reckons that by eating fewer flavors at each meal, dieters will
better control their appetite, eat less and as a result lose weight. Interesting, but is there any scientific
evidence to substantiate the theory?
Flavor Point Diet Review - How Does it Work...?
The "flavor point", as Katz dubs it, is the moment in a meal when you feel full.Reach this point earlier in a
meal and you'll eat less. Reach it later and the converse is true Katz proposes that the
fewer flavors you eat in one meal, the earlier you'll reach the flavor point....or so the theory goes! This is apparently because lots of
flavors eaten together stimulate different appetite centres in the brain, resulting in overeating. Hmm, with us so far?
Sounds pretty straightforward, although the diet gets a little convoluted at this point. There are three
phases to the diet:
The book contains a huge range of flavor-themed recipes, so building a flavor-themed day is easy. Putting aside
the flavor issue, this is essentially a low fat, low calorie diet based on lean protein, wholegrains, low fat dairy
products and lots of fruit and veg. Oh, and the recipes are delicious! Katz also recommends that you do at least
30 minutes of exercise each day, both aerobic and weight training.
Flavor Point Diet Review - Does it Work...?
We would suggest that it does...but not necessarily because of the flavor point theory. This is a low calorie
diet based on around 1,200-1,500 calories a day that largely complies with healthy eating and weight loss guidance...for which the evidence is strong. You're also encouraged to exercise, which is a great aid for weight loss. As a result, you should lose weight at a healthy rate. The evidence for the
flavor point theory, though, is weak at best. Given Katz's research background, it's surprising that he hasn't
conducted more research on his theory, and that his theory hasn't been replicated and tested in independent
studies. There may be something in it, but there's not the evidence to say with any certainty that his theory
works and is any more than a gimmick. We'd also suggest that the flavor-theming could get tedious to maintain.
Keeping enough flavors in the house for each meal would be difficult and shopping each day more so if time is
limited.
Flavor Point Diet Review - The Bottom Line...
Our Flavor Point Diet review would conclude that this is essentially a healthy weight loss plan hiding behind a
gimmick.Whilst the recipes are great, if there's nothing in the flavor point theory, then what's the difference
between this healthy diet and any other healthy diet? Having said that, I'd have no trouble recommending the diet
book to people...enjoy the recipes, just don't bother with the flavor-theming! However, if the flavor-theming is going to help you to
stick to the diet and if you lose weight as a result, then fine. Flavor-theming as Katz proposes won't do you any
harm and may actually liven up your diet if it's a bit bland at present. If you've got time to shop for ingredients
and plan meals well in advance then you may like this diet. However, we can't see what added benefit flavor-theming
will bring in terms of weight loss. Our Flavor Point
Diet review verdict? Gimmicky, but essentially a healthy choice!
