Too Busy for Weight Loss! Issue #010 -- Diet vs Exercise April 12, 2011 |
Hi Diet vs ExerciseWelcome to the latest issue of "Too Busy for Weight Loss!" This is an occasional e-zine that will cut through the hype, fads and gimmicks to give you the low down on the really important information you need to successfully lose weight and keep it off. If you like this e-zine, please do a friend and me a big favor and "pay it forward." If a friend DID forward this to you and if you like what you read, please subscribe by visiting our website. And so to this month's e-zine...Is diet or exercise the most effective way to lose weight? This is one of the questions I get asked most often and is one of the hardest to give a straight answer to. All things being equal, the evidence would suggest that diet is the most important factor in weight loss. It doesn't matter how hard or often you exercise, if you don't get your diet right you won't get the maximum results for all your hard work. Sure, you may well lose weight and most importantly body fat, but in most cases all those hours in the gym will be undone by a poor diet. So, why is that? Well, to put it simply, you can eat a lot more calories in a junk food, burger and fries packed diet than you can reasonably burn off working out. A quarter pounder with cheese, fries and a shake contains the best part of a 1,000 calories. You'd have to run around 10 miles to burn that lot off! And that's just one meal. Eat like that all the time and, well, you get the message. Goofing off every now and then is fine, but there's only so much damage caused by a bad diet that exercise can repair. Diet alone is on balance more effective than exercise alone for weight loss - you can eat a lot more calories than you'll ever burn off in a day. Combine a healthy, balanced diet and regular workouts containing some resistance training to build and tone muscle and intervals to burn fat and you have the ideal formula for a successful weight loss programme. Why not take a look at our site for more information on a healthy weight loss plan and an effective weight loss workout? Assuming of course that you want to achieve the best possible weight loss results in as little time as possible. Best wishes with your weight loss workout, Marcus |
