Hi New Year Weight Loss ResolutionsWelcome to the latest issue of "Too Busy for Weight Loss!"This is a monthly e-zine that will cut through the hype, fads and gimmicks to give you the low down on the really important information you need to successfully lose weight and keep it off. If you like this e-zine, please do a friend and me a big favor and "pay it forward." If a friend DID forward this to you and if you like what you read, please subscribe by visiting our website. And so to this month's e-zine...Guess what the two most popular New Year resolutions are? Yep, you guessed it -- to quit smoking and to lose weight! You don't need to be Einstein to work those out... Have you made your weight loss resolution for 2007, yet? If so, how's it going? If you've resolved to lose weight, well done and good luck! The chances are you'll need it as studies show that the average diet lasts just three days. Furthermore, 85% of people who go on a diet and lose some weight put it all back on again within five years, 75% of them within the first year. Now there's a sobering statistic - but does it have to be that way? Of course not! 25% of successful dieters keep the weight off for at least a year and 15% of dieters keep the weight off for the long term. So how can you improve your chances of losing weight and keeping it off? Well, there are three strategies that will dramatically improve your chances of success: #1. Develop the right mind set "Sounds fine", I hear you say, "but it's easier said than done!" Sure, some effort is required to succeed - but nothing worthwhile in life comes without a little blood, sweat and tears! Ok, so let's take a quick look at each strategy...
#1. It All Starts in Your Mind...Where the mind goes first, the body will follow.I don't know who said that, but they were right. If you're serious about losing weight...or about achieving anything of substance for that matter, then you need to develop the right mindset. First, you have to really want to lose weight. If you don't, it ain't gonna happen. Second, you have to set yourself some goals...a long term objective, made up of lots of milestones that you can achieve along the way. Third, you need a plan to get you there. Fourth, you need to develop a positive mindset that will keep you focussed on your goal - no matter what barriers life puts in your way. Remember, it's easy to fail - but much harder to succeed. And failure really doesn't matter unless it's the last time you try. If you have a bad day, pick yourself up, dust yourself down and get right back on track...starting with your next meal! A Healthy Weight Loss Plan...If you've subscribed to the last few issues of Too Busy for Weight Loss, then you'll be familar with the phrase, 'dieting makes you fat'.People diet, lose some weight, go back to eating normally and put the weight right back on again -- and then some! The solution for long term weight loss is to choose an eating plan that you can stick to for life. Check out our healthy weight loss plan for an example of a plan that works. If you prefer a more formal 'diet', then check out our review of the best weight loss plans to find a healthy, long term solution to achieve your weight management goals.
#3. Exercise...It pains me when I see diets being promoted that claim you don't need to exercise to lose weight.Rubbish! If you are really serious about losing weight and keeping it off, then you must build some physical activity into your daily routine. Walk up the stairs, walk to work, join a gym, exercise at home...whatever. Find something you like and will stick to -- and get moving! Exercise boosts your metabolism, burns calories, builds a little muscle tissue that means you burn more calories at rest... The benefits are endless! For more info on the benefits of exercise, check out our section on how to increase your metabolism. It contains several articles that you may find helpful. So, there you have it. Three foolproof strategies that when combined and with consistent application will pretty much guarantee your success. Happy New Year and here's to a prosperous and successful 2007! Until next month, Best wishes, Marcus and Lisa |
